New York Fashion Week is in full swing right now, and we have been drooling over all the posts, pictures, and updates on social media. Although NYFW isn’t over until the 15th, we wanted to give a little coverage and point out some of our favorite moments from the catwalks so far. I’m sure there will be even more as the week wraps up, but I couldn’t resist sharing some now!
-Tommy Hilfiger’s Extravaganza of a Show
Tommy Hilfiger went all out, once again! He turned the entirety of South Street Seaport‘s Pier 16 in New York City into “Tommy’s Pier”. It was more than a fashion show, but a full-on affair, complete with carnival food and rides, with more than 2,000 guests, including an A-list of celebs. Gigi Hadid was Hilfiger’s muse, as well as a co-designer for the collection. What a fun party that must have been! Not to mention, the collection was killer. It gave a “boho military” vibe that we love!
-J.Crew Using “Real People” Instead of Models
J.Crew ditched hiring professional models for their NYFW presentation, and opted for their friends and family instead. The age range was 13-70, including an array of shapes, sizes, and ethnic backgrounds. There was even an expectant mother with a baby bump in the mix! This diverse group of models showed off how “real people” could wear J.Crew’s designs in a variety of ways.
-Happy 20th Anniversary, Monique Lhuillier!
Lhuillier did not disappoint as the label hallmarked their 20-year anniversary. The designs stayed true to what the brand is best known for- soft colors, feminine silhouettes, and exquisite beading. There was a retrospective vibe, with many old Hollywood and vintage touches.
-Powerhouses Participating in See-Now-Buy-Now
Rather than sticking with the tradition of teasing us with collections available next season, Tommy Hilfiger, Alexander Wang, and Tom Ford presented clothes in their runway shows that were immediately available for purchase, straight from the catwalk. Wang even announced his collaboration with Adidas, and then moments later revealed it on models down the runway, all of which were available for immediate purchase. Hilfiger offered a pop-up shop where guests could purchase his merchandise at “Tommy’s Pier”. Nothing like a little instant gratification!
I can’t wait to see even more fashion goodness from NYFW Spring 2017!
