If you were to ask me what my three fashion vices were, I would enthusiastically and without hesitation respond by saying: costume jewelry, hats, and anything and everything LEOPARD. I’ve long been telling clients that leopard acts as a neutral when styling an outfit. Be it a leopard calf hair clutch, leopard pump, or leopard pencil skirt (in my case), this iconic and classic print is considered a wardrobe staple in every stylist’s book.
I was in the market for a leopard pencil skirt last fall, and picked up this neoprene skirt from Chico’s. I use the website Shop Style all the time to shop for clients (and myself), and both the print and length were exactly what I was looking for at the time. Although I had never shopped at Chico’s for myself before (I take clients there occasionally), I was and am really impressed with the quality and style of the skirt.
The wonderful thing about leopard is that it can be worn with a myriad of items and can be styled a multitude of ways. I personally love leopard as a pop against black, denim, white, or a bold or bright solid color; I also love using leopard to print mix (think leopard with polka dots, leopard with floral, leopard with stripes).
I paired this leopard skirt with a Chaser graphic tee, my Zara chain strap purse, and my fun ruffle ankle-strap heels from Topshop. Although almost five inches, I’ve gotten so many compliments on the color of these shoes – mustard and marigold are both trending colors for transition season and fall this year. I needed a pop of color with this outfit, and these heels certainly did the trick!
All my jewelry is from Collections by Joya, a local St. Louis-based company. I love this company for so many reasons – firstly, they give a handful of each sale back to women’s charities. Secondly, the jewelry is on-trend, well-made, artisanal and hand-crafted. Lastly (but certainly not least), the jewelry is reasonable. I ADORE all of their collections, and have actually had the honor and pleasure of styling several of their photoshoots. How cool are these drop earrings? LOVE!
I am OBSESSED with their new monogram necklace from their upcoming holiday collection. It’s geometric and minimalist; it can also be layered with a longer pendant necklace. Definitely on my wish list!
Styling tip: I knotted my tee so I could wear the skirt a bit higher at my natural waist – an easy t-shirt trick that elevates your look a bit and mixes things up.
Any fellow leopard lovers out there?
