If you know me, you know I adore athleisure and I adore cats – you heard correctly – cats. No, this won’t be a post about cats, or even fashion + cats, but it does involve our dog, Izzy. I recently moved in with my boyfriend, and as if living with a man isn’t adjustment enough, I’ve inherited (insert cough) a DOG. I’m slowly acclimating to these very loud creatures who have a propensity to jump and/or chew on my prized possessions. Sigh. I’m trying! Trying includes getting a little exercise with this one, for both of our sanity’s sakes.

So what is athleisure, exactly? It’s a fashion category that combines athletic fabrics & silhouettes with function and comfort. Hence the “leisure” part of it. Think Sunday errands, dog-walking, walk + brunch with friends, airport travel, closet hauls & edits (on my end), hanging out at home.
I love a great pair of well-made leggings, both for working out and athleisure. I recently picked up this “Quick Pace 7/8 Tight” from Lululemon in the color “soundwave black white.” They have a triangle cutout on the bottom back around the calves, which helps elongate and flatter your legs. This pattern is so fun – a welcome departure from basic black leggings!
I paired the leggings with a longer graphic tee from Evereve, and knotted it for a bit of flair. Longer tees like this can be knotted at the hip for an alternative way of styling a tee, and it’s such a cute throwback to the late 80’s and early 90’s! I love how the bright red LOVER graphic contrasts with the pattern on the leggings. Longer tees like this also help cover my booty if I’m feeling a bit more body-conscious that day (who doesn’t have those days?).
Another part of this tee I love? The cut-outs and cold-shoulder detail – so fun!
I’ll admit, that face is pretty loveable. What I don’t love is the barking, leash-pulling and jumping. Caesar Milan, can I do your styling and wardrobe and you put this rascal in boot-camp!? K, thanks.
I paired this outfit with simple black slip-on sneakers by Steve Madden. Can’t wait to wear this outfit again so I can wear my new Adidas rose-gold “Superstar” sneakers! Easy sneakers in fun colors like hot pink or metallics help elevate an athletic look, but slip-ons reign supreme when it comes to leisure-wear. So easy to throw on when you’re running around! I have a collection of colors and fabrics for all seasons. Other sneaker lines to check out are Vince, Joie, Nike, and one of my faves, J-Slides!
Another thing I love about Lulu’s leggings is the balance they strike between fit & structure with flexible, stretchy fabrics that allow for movement and flexibility. Many of the leggings they offer come in medium to high rises, and have a wide waist band that provides a bit of tummy and muffin-top control. No carb-control options, unfortunately.
